Importance of context

Postby 12080437 KyeongMi on Sun Nov 08, 2009 4:28 pm

Context is really important becaue it helps understand the langauge more easily and it also prevents misunderstanding. Context also includes the situation where the language is used.
We know that what the language means exactly considering the atmosphere.

In my case, I like to joke around with my friends saying rough(?) words. And so do my friends.
At one time, my friend suddenly said "Kyeong Mi you suck!" I was thinking 'huh? I didn't do anything and why is he saying that?' I got worried becasue I might had done something rude. Then when I looked around to see him, I realized he said it just to make me look back at him. I could feel the atmosphere of joke. Then I said back "Go away you idiot!" I said it without feeling guilty because he would know that it's a joke too.

If it's not of context, there might be a fight misunderstanding the purpose of the language.
